In this episode, let’s talk about decorations. No, we are not decorating a cake, or talking about holiday decorations, although those are a couple of kinds of decorations. The first meaning of decorations is that we adorn things with items to make them more beautiful or memorable. Think of Christmas decorations or birthday celebrations.

The second type of decoration is what we give to a heroic soldier. Someone who has done something amazing, perhaps dangerous, and was willing to risk it all. Those decorations are to create memory and honor. The third decoration is the adornment we put on ourselves, not to be impressive, but to exude light and hope. We can decorate our lives and beings with hope and love, especially during this hard time.

In this episode, we explore a very difficult skill and that is loving yourself. Most of us pretend that we love ourselves, yet we miserably flunk this simple test. Go to the mirror, stare deeply into your eyes and say slowly and meaningfully, “I – love – you.” How does that feel? Did you look away? Did you feel like a phoney? Was doing this super uncomfortable? If you answered yes to the above… you aren’t alone. I had a client who said that he’d rather put his hand through a meat grinder than do this exercise but, after awhile, he came to embrace and enjoy this process and now can say it with conviction! Mind you, it did take him awhile to develop this skill.

It is most common to do things for others and profess love for them. The truth is that we cannot love others more than we love ourselves. This may sound harsh, but it is true. Loving yourself is the key to eliminating head trash. You will learn key telltale signs that show how you really feel about yourself. This is not about self-indulgence, but about truly caring for the divine person that you are.

In this episode, we dive deep into the practice of meditation. It is not a religious practice, although it is a tenant of many religions. We all know that we have a spiritual side. Sometimes we are uncomfortable discussing it, but we know it’s there. What if you could learn to tap into higher wisdom on command?

In this episode, learn the three simple steps of meditation. First, slow down enough to be where you are. Second, be still enough to see what is there. Third, trust what comes to you is the truth. Start small with 5 or 10 minutes a day and watch the power blossom in your life. The best part about learning this amazing skill is that you can’t do it wrong. How many things can you describe like that? This episode is a big one…

In the coming months, I’ll go into various meditation practices and even lead us through a guided meditation. I’ve been meditating for 40 years and have written 5 books on it as well as created a course. As a matter of fact, the very first digital course I created back in 2009 was a course on meditation. I remember clearly, the day that I sold my first course…New Years Day, a great time to begin, but, any day is a great day to learn and start to meditate.

Today we’re discussing and focusing on skill #2 of our five skills to create your ultimate life. This skill is named – accept and deal with head trash. In this episode, we come face to face with the monsters in your mind. The naysayers. The well-meaning friend or partner. All those past experiences that try to convince you the Ultimate Life is not within your reach. Ignore them. Better yet, have security escort the naysayers from the building.

We all have some version of the story of being not good enough. We feel weak or insignificant. That is not the truth of who you are. You are talented, powerful, and important. How do you deal with these feelings? Learn to let them pass through. You are not your feelings. Forgive your mistakes and recommit. Get a coach and be coachable. You can and will create what you truly commit to. That is no lie.

In this episode, we talk about how small things make a big difference. We all know the journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step, but how does that show up in your life? Any project you want to do starts with the first small piece. Breaking things up in small pieces makes them doable. In my book “The Results Equation,” I teach how to do this by creating a step map. Next, daily choices around preparation create the context or fabric of our day. Making small choices in the morning to prepare yourself for a great day gives you an advantage. In this episode, we will carry on from yesterday’s “What’s in a Though” even further. Thinking takes work. If you play hard all day and you come in tired, it is no surprise. If you go through an emotionally challenging experience you are exhausted. If you think hard at work all day and focus your concentration for an extended period, it is also hard.

Thinking takes energy. It’s the creative genesis of all things. In Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, he taught the principle of “begin with the end in mind.” This is to say, think first and will facilitate creation. Thought is the very foundation of creation. You begin with the end in mind even when you don’t know you’re doing it. Think of the number of times you expect failure. Then it shows up for you. Choose your intentions carefully.
